Picture of the day

I've decided that Logan will probably have this much snow left and be this cold on resurrection morning. So I've decided to pass out hot chocolate at the cemetery if I live to see that day.

Our Logan Canyon Adventure and Other Random Thoughts

While cleaning out the freezer I found some beautiful ice crystals growing inside a container of raspberry sherbet. I thought everyone would appreciate seeing them. lol

Logan and Cache Valley switched to "digital signal only" last fall so that they wouldn't have to drive up to the top of the mountain to change the repeater in the middle of winter when the rest of the country made the switch. What that means for us non-cable subscribing people is that it's all or nothing- no fuzzy stations- all there or no signal at all. That is except when it is almost good enough. Then you get cool little digital blips on the screen. Until we put an antenna on the roof we can only get KJZZ.
Mandy and Jonathan and I drove up Logan Canyon on President's day and had pre-cooked foil dinners and hot chocolate at the turn off to Tony Grove. We hiked through some really deep snow to find a spot for our lunch. It was quite the adventure.

Best Valentine's Present

This morning Jonathan surprised me by calling into a local radio station to win a Valentine's gift certificate from Tony's Grove (a floral and gardening center). I could hear him talking on the phone while I was in the bathtub but didn't think anything of it. Then he knocked on the bathroom door and asked me to come listen to something. I was sure Pres. Monson had died or there was an earthquake on the news or something like that.
I jumped out of the tub and got to hear Jonathan on the radio talking to the DJ. Their conversion went something like this.

DJ: What's your name?
Jonathan: My name is Jonathan.
DJ: Who is you sweetheart?
Jonathan: That would be my wife Amy.
DJ: What makes Amy so special?
Jonathan: She is the most perfect person I know.
DJ: How long have you been married?
Jonathan: A couple of months.
DJ: Really!? Do you remember what your wedding date was?
Jonathan: Nov. 22.
DJ: Good. I'm an old man and I can tell you that if you remember that and the year you got married you'll do well. What song would you like to dedicate to your sweetheart?
Jonathan: Something by the BeeGee's would be fine.
DJ: How about "How Deep is Your Love". Now where did you win the Tony's Grove gift certificate and get a song dedicated to your sweetheart?
Jonathan: KOOL 103.9

Swimming in formation

Yesterday I noticed one of my fishies floating at the top of the tank. On account of my morning sickness a swift funeral was held with none of the usual verbal commemorations- "He lived a noble life... blah blah blah". Further inspection of the tank revealed that one of his companions was also missing. Hmmm. Murder-suicide? Anyway, the other fishies seemed to miss their friends so I bought four tiny tetras to make everyone feel better. Am I getting the mothering instinct or what?! Oh by the way, Jonathan did make it back safely from Washington D.C. last week. I was very glad to have him back.

The word is out!

Jonathan and are having a blob. We had our first Doctor's visit this morning and Baby Phillips is due to arrive September 6, 2009. I'm so proud of myself for being so close to the due date in my guess. I was only 2 days off. We were surprised to have an ultrasound, see the baby move, see the baby's heart beating, AND hear the baby's heart beating. It was wonderful.

Jon Enjoys the Week in Washington D.C...

Jon is having his first business trip for SDL this week in Washington D.C. He is visiting the Naval Research Lab with three other people from SDL. His co-workers and boss like him so much that he gets to give the group presentation to NRL. Wow. Jon knows how to get around D.C. and will be fine when they get three inches of snow tomorrow. He told me that he has a picture perfect veiw of the Washington Monument from his hotel suite window. I love you, Jon!

Our Monday Adventure

Jon and I drove up Logan Canyon. We went snow shoeing on the Stump Hollow Trail near Beaver Mountain. It was 20 degrees warmer than in Logan which is experiencing an inversion. After hiking, Jon took me up to the Ski resort and we watched some of the skiers. Someday I'd like to try down hill skiing.
We drove over the mountain to look at Bear Lake. It is as lovely as ever.
On the way home Jonathan had to slow down a few times when the road got icy. He says it "icky." We don't know what happened to this truck because it wasn't icy or icky here. We passed the tow truck coming up a few miles later.
