Autumn had her first ride in the jogging stroller yesterday.

In the end, she was too hungry to go for a long walk and we came back to the house fairly quickly. I am so excited to be able to go exersize!!!

Two weeks old

I'm trying to keep a weekly journal for Autumn. This is my second entry.

Autumn is two weeks old today. She is celebrating by staying awake a little bit more than usual today. Autumn and her daddy caught a cold this week. Autumn went to see Dr. Visick on Thursday just to be sure we were doing everything right. Autumn weighed in at 9 lbs 3 ounces. Go Autumn. Go. This week Autumn started to notice objects around the house like her mobile. Her eyes are open more and she is much more observant. Autumn averages 8 diaper changes a day and prefers to eat for 10 to 15 minutes every hour during the day unless encouraged to eat longer. This is a habit she's had since birth. She gets up once between about 1:30 and 3:00 am and again between about 4:30 and 6:00 am every night. On Saturday Autumn went on her first picnic. Autumn has almost outgrown her newborn diapers. Fortunately, the generic Parents Choice diapers seem to fit her the best.

Phillips Family Picnic Adventure

Today Jon and I took Autumn to our favorite picnic spot up Logan Canyon. We had a lovely hot dog roast. Autumn slept through most of it. We all smelled like camp fire afterward.

Autumn and the monkeys

This morning I saw Autumn staring at her monkey mobile while I was changing her. This is the first time I've seen her study something beside people faces and light fixtures. She really enjoyed it when I spun the mobile around. I tried to give her one of the monkeys to hold but that was a little to much for her. I don't think she realizes that she can hold anything yet.

More on the one week b-day...

Autumn is one week old today. Her schedule consists of sleeping and waking up every one to four hours to be fed. She eats for five to fifteen minutes and falls back asleep. When upset, she usually isn't consoled by anything but Mamma's milk. Pacifiers don't work for her. Daddy can get away with feeding her formula so Mamma can sleep for a few more hours at night. Daddy has given Autumn several sponge baths this week. She likes them. Autumn has been for two walks with Mamma and Daddy to the church parking lot. All walks end in a bit of crying. It's hard when you're so hungry.
Autumn is showing a desire to roll over and desperately wants to lift up her head. She smiles at Mamma and Daddy. Her trademark look is her “Evel Knievel” look which she uses when she begins to nurse. She likes to bite Mamma if not encouraged to latch correctly. Autumn has several nick names. One of them is Mautumn. She got this one from a child in Idaho Falls who thought Autumn was a dumb name but Mautumn would be a cool name. Daddy uses this nick name when Autumn cries. Mamma calls Autumn “Velociraptor” but only when Autumn chews on her. Other than then that she is usually Autumn or Princess.

One week old

Today is my one week birthday. Mommy and I slept on pillows and watched Music and the Spoken Word for church.


This is my six day old picture. You probably can't tell in this picture, but my eyes are getting a lighter color blue.

Welcome Autumn Phillips!

Autumn Rebecca Phillips was born at 5:59a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6. She weighed 8 lbs 7 oz. and was 20.5 in. long. She decided to come into the world via c-section a healthy, happy little girl.

This is Autumn with Dr. Craig who delivered her.

Another Doctor's Report

No change at visit today. Inducement plan if needed is 7am, Sept. 14. For those of you worried that I am having kidney failure, I am not. I have PUPPP, a common first pregnancy, 3rd trimester symptom that is harmless. Interestingly, 70% of women who get it give birth to boys. I found this about it:

"The cause of PUPPP is unknown. It is not associated with preeclampsia, autoimmune disorders, hormonal abnormalities, or fetal abnormalities. Some investigators suggest that the rapid abdominal wall distension damages connective tissue and causes an inflammatory response. One study has shown that male fetal DNA can be found in skin biopsies of the rash. Since 70% of women with PUPPP give birth to boys, a new hypothesis is that male fetal DNA acts as a skin irritant.
