The funniest story ever

The following story is true. This whole evening I was up Logan Canyon for a girls' camp dinner and testimony meeting (at a tri-stake camp for Laurels). While I was away, Jonathan and Autumn had their own adventure. Our swamp cooler has needed a new belt for some time and Jonathan decided tonight to replace it. We normally get on the roof by climbing out Autumn's bedroom window. This Jonathan did to remove the old fan belt. Next he and Autumn took the old belt to the hardware store to get a comparable new one. We're good so far, right? Next he gets back on the roof and installs the new belt. As he's getting down to Autumn's window, he realizes that it is now shut and locked. While he was on the roof, Autumn climbed on her toy chest and shut the window which has a clasp that automatically locks when shut!

This story has a happy ending as our neighbors happened to be outside and Jonathan didn't have to jump from the second story of our house. They threw Jonathan a screwdriver so he could unscrew the window frame and get back inside. Jonathan has a great sense of humor and let me share this story with you. I'm sure that we will remind Autumn through the years of how she locked her dad on the roof when she was just 1.

We're Having a Boy!!!

Our little boy will be born sometime around Nov. 13! We reached the half way point (20 weeks) on Sunday, June 26.

Alligator and Buffalo

For Dia Dos Pias (Fathers' Day), we went to Gaucho Grill in Logan with a coupon. Their Fathers' Day special included alligator and buffalo. Buffalo tastes like beef, and alligator, well, let's just say- it tastes like meat. We really hope that they stay in business because we love Brazilian food. Our family has the best pia in the whole world. Happy Fathers' Day Jonathan!

Girls Camp is Underway

Autumn and I helped take our young women up to camp yesterday. As soon as the tents were up a light rain started and didn't ever stop while we were there. The camp is beautiful and only an hour from Logan. The camp also has a wonderful pavilion and everything was going smoothly. I had a part helping with crafts in the afternoon. That went great as well. I had a feeling that Autumn should come to camp with me even though I had a fantastic babysitter lined up. OK, from here this story is not really about camp.

During the day Autumn's breathing started to get progressively worse. About a month ago she had to get asthma treatments, but it went away and I was surprised that it came back at camp. Jonathan said she had had symptoms before we left. I am grateful that she was with me and not at the babysitter's because it might have gotten worse playing with the other kids and they wouldn't have known about the asthma.

After crafts, Autumn and I headed home. I called the doctor's office as soon as we got home, and they said it was high priority and they'd call me back. After an hour they hadn't called and the place where you get the nebulizer was about to close. I called back and they said, "We have no record that you called." I started to get really upset because I was supposed to be delivering dinner to someone (food that was brought home from camp where they don't have refrigaration) and I couldn't leave while sorting out the doctor mess. My visiting teacher came over and delivered the food for me. Thank you so much Camille! The doctor's office also said that they were full even during extended hours. They said to go to the ER. Things worked out because we went back to Instacare where we'd been before and they got us the nebulizer and a perscription for an inhaler. My opinion of Instacare is getting better and better. I look forward to finding Autumn a better doctor that won't loose important phone calls.

Some of what we've been up to lately...

Autumn is showing signs that she shares her mother's love of optics. Someday I'm going to have a whole set of prisms and lenses and teach optics to my children.

The other day I found Autumn sorting her ABC magnets by color.

June 3rd was my sister-in-law Meli's sister's wedding. We attended the reception in Lindon. It was fun to see all the family from Bolivia, that we don't see very much. We got this fun picture of the three pregnant ladies.

Another grandchild. :) Annie was born Saturday morning! I like the wrinkles babies have when they are just born. Their faces change within hours. I'm glad we got to see her on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Jonathan went mountain biking with his dad, we had a wonderful picnic with our Martineau and Pozo relatives, and we went to a Phillips family dinner and Troy's birthday party. Troy and Diana have been married for over a month now.

Before we left we got to pick out some of Grandma Burtenshaw's jewelery to take home.

Jonathan's dad dug up over half of their raspberry plants to give us for our garden.

Jonathan replanted them when we got home late that night and we were all grumpy and tired and the swamp cooler turned out to be broken. Some of the plants had to wait until Monday to be planted. Now all the plants are doing great, and we've all but forgotten how tired we were.

The next Saturday we hiked as a family up Spring Hollow. This is where Jonathan proposed to me and was also our first date. I found a nice shell fossil this time and some crystals. Anyone visiting us should consider going up there for the nice rocks. You won't be disappointed.

This is the Crazy Horse Monument. It is especially fitting because there are quite a few tribes in the area. It's not done yet because the creators won't except government help.
