Happy 24th of July!

Last night as I was getting ready for bed I heard fireworks outside. I remembered that the city has a Pioneer Day fireworks display almost as large as the one they do for the 4th. I climbed onto the roof of my house and found that not one but 4 towns were lighting fireworks at the same time! I watched Logan's, Smithfield's, Mendon's, and some of Preston's fireworks. It was fantastic!

Dry Canyon hike or... encounter with a boa

Friday evening Jonathan and I walked up the Dry Canyon trail which starts above River Heights. We were there to test out Jon's new head lamp. The weather was wonderful and cooled off perfectly! Just as it was getting dark enough to use the head lamp I noticed a very smooth stick on the trail. Unwilling to pass by until I knew that it was truly a stick, Jonathan kindly nudged the stick with his shoe causing it to reveal its true identity as a snake. The snake had no desire to move and merely turned its head so it didn't have to smell Jonathan's shoe (see picture.) This is the first snake that I've ever seen in Utah. It's proof that they do live here. The only other wildlife seen on this hike was a large "woof" spider.

Informal race up Green Canyon

Today I went mountain biking with the SDL cycling club at lunch. Prizes were assigned via drawing the finishers’ names from a hat. I got 2nd place! The ride started with everyone traveling up 1800/1900 E to the Green Canyon trail head. When everyone had arrived we raced to the end of the first section of trail.

We watched the Logan fireworks from my house. It was also a surprise birthday party for Jonathan.
