Aspic anyone?

Last night I made stir-fry using a store-bought sweet and sour sauce mix. I followed the recipe exactly and got what tasted just like Grandma Downey's tomato aspic. I thought you might like a recipe for this interesting childhood memory. Lemon jello seems to be the base ingredient in all the versions that I looked at. Enjoy!

WE'RE PUSHING TOMATO ASPIC
3 med. carrots, shredded 3 med. celery stalks, shredded 1 tbsp. white onion, shredded 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. horseradish 1/4 tsp. salt Freshly ground black pepper 3 c. tomato juice 1 (6 oz.) pkg. Jello, lemon flavored

Logan mudside close to my old house

The house I lived in before moving to our current one was right above a canal on 400 North. There are trails from my house down the hill to the canal and you can run along it for about a mile before you get to First Dam. It is also a wildlife corador with lots of vegitation. Three or four years ago there was a mudside above the canal and down into some houses because the university was accidentally leaking thousands of gallons of water from pipes near the hillside. To fix it, they lined the whole hillside with bricks in the slide area.

Yesterday the actual canal burst and three people are still missing from the mudeslide. There are lots of people cleaning up the mess this afternoon. I wonder if they got out of church?

My Creative Mom

My mom is working on a project for all her grand kids and grand kids-to-be. She is the most creative person that I know!

Backyard Visitor

This evening I watched Jonathan remove a tree from the backyard with a pick ax. I tried to be helpful and remove a weed near all the tree action, but I found a visitor sleeping under it. The visitor preferred that I leave the weed where it was.

The Glucose Test

This morning I got to have a glucose test for gestational diabetes. Jon suggested I read the instructions and when I did I found out that I was supposed to have fasted for 12 hours before drinking a very sugary orange liquid an hour before my doctor's appointment. Oh and I supposed to have had no sugar for a while before the test. I'm not sure if the brownie sundae came within the 12 hours or not. But I did drink the drink at the correct time before the visit.

I like sugar, so I was surprised at how sick I got after the test. The doctor's visit went well. She said that my belly is growing at the correct rate- according to the measuring tape anyway. I think that my baby didn't like the glucose drink either. We had a very long walk home from work at the end of the day. Jon understood how sick I felt and made a light supper for us. I'm going to go eat it now.

Father's Day Weekend

This weekend Jon and I got to visit with lots of family. It was wonderful. Over the course of the weekend we saw Bethany, Celeste, Lana, Jan, Mandy, and finally Uncle Jerold's family and various second cousins at a reunion in McCammon, ID.

Bethany, Celeste, Lana, and Jan spent Friday night at our house on their way to the Salt Lake Airport. We enjoyed their visit and hope Jan and Lana made it back to Arizona safely.

Mandy stopped by on her way back from a Bear Lake adventure. She showed me some amazing quartz crystals that she found at a road cut in Emigration Canyon.

Jon and I attended the Nephi Martineau Reunion and got to play with Evon and Deon. The girls got back from YWs' Camp the day before and had good stories to tell. Jerold and Wanda were there too. Jon amazed me by winning the "guess how many cousins in my dads generation" contest. I was surprised that no one in that generation that was at the reunion actually knew! Jon won a box of raspberry chocolates. Mmmmmm.

For Father's Day, Jon got to have Brazilian food and Grandma Phillips's orange rolls for lunch. The festivities continued with brownie sundaes in the evening. I am very grateful to have Jonathan as my husband!
